Literature Overview
Even though toddlers have very
short attention spans, I feel it is important to read to your child daily.
Children who are read to from birth will develop a love for reading and
gain important literacy skills. Try to find board book copies (if
possible) of the reading selections so your toddler can help turn the pages.
Sometimes you may have to summarize the words on a page as your toddler
quickly turns it, but he will still be learning. Reading with your
child will be a wonderful experience and will create great memories to
treasure.
I have chosen 2 book selections
for each lesson plan. Since each lesson is to cover about 2 weeks
of time, each book can be read daily for 1 week. Toddlers enjoy the
repetition. You can choose to read the story at bedtime, but any
time of the day can work well. You will notice that many of the selections
focus on basic skills such as numbers, letters, shapes, colors and more.
This is an easy way to introduce your child to these concepts without actively
teaching them. Feel free to choose different book selections from
those I have chosen. Happy reading!
